Recruitment underway for new Interest Committees

Qualifications Scotland – Scotland’s newest public body – is looking for learners, teachers and practitioners to join its new Interest Committees, giving them an opportunity to be at the heart of decision making in the new organisation.

The Education (Scotland) Act 2025, which created Qualifications Scotland, also set out the establishment of two Interest Committees – one for learners and one for teachers and practitioners.

The Interest Committees will advise Qualifications Scotland on how qualifications – and the policies and processes that support them – operate in real settings, from studying the qualifications to what it is like for schools, colleges, training providers and employers to deliver them.

Members of the committees will share their own experiences and opinions to inform thinking, influence decisions, and shape future developments in qualifications and assessment.

Recruitment for these committees is now open and will close at 9pm on Monday 2 March 2026.

Nick Page, Chief Executive of Qualifications Scotland said “The arrival of Qualifications Scotland represents a reset for everyone involved in the qualifications system. We want to accelerate change and to power long-term success for Scotland. We will achieve that by being an organisation that listens, learns and evolves.

“The establishment of the Learner and the Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committees represent a significant shift in how we will be governed, with learners and educators much more involved.

“We want learners to tell us about how we assess and understand, at every stage of their lives, how they learn and how that learning is applied to their next steps, whether that’s further study or the workplace. We want teachers and practitioners to tell us about their experiences of delivering our qualifications. That’s the opportunity and I really welcome their involvement.”

Learner Interest Committee

For the Learner Interest Committee, Qualifications Scotland is looking for a wide range of learners, including those with experience of care, or who are carers, and those with additional support needs or a disability. Learners can be studying National Qualifications, Higher Nationals or Vocational Qualifications. The learners can be from all parts of Scotland and be any age, including children and young people under 18 and adult learners.

By joining the committee, learners will be able to share honest feedback about what it’s like to study Qualifications Scotland qualifications, help improve how qualifications are designed and assessed, influence the future of qualifications in Scotland, help shape decisions that affect thousands of people, meet learners from across Scotland and build connections and make their voice heard at a national level.

Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committee

The Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committee ensures that the voices of Scotland’s teachers and practitioners, with experience of National Qualifications, Higher Nationals and Vocational Qualifications, are at the heart of Qualifications Scotland’s policy and practice.

This is their opportunity to bring their professional experience into national conversations — helping to shape a qualifications system that is fair, inclusive and fit for the future.

Membership of the committee will allow them to contribute to the future direction of qualifications in Scotland, collaborate with colleagues across sectors and regions and support the continuous improvement of Scotland’s qualifications system.

The views and insights shared by both of these Interest Committees will be fed directly into senior teams and Board-level discussions, helping to inform strategic thinking, influence decision-making, and shape future developments in qualifications and assessment.
